A 35mm Film Engagement Session in Corrales, New Mexico

As far as outdoor engagement session locations near Albuquerque go, when a couple tells me they're looking for Bosque rather than mountain views, Corrales Bosque Open Space is an easy recommendation.

The trails are easy to wander without requiring a hike, parking is simple, and the cottonwoods provide plenty of shade throughout much of the year. It feels just removed enough from the city to slow things down without requiring a long drive.

The Bosque is quiet in a way that's increasingly hard to find. Even just a few minutes outside Albuquerque, it becomes easy to forget where you are, settle into the landscape, and focus on the person you're there with.

We met on an early May morning for this session, which ended up being a good call. If you've spent much time in New Mexico, you know that by May we're already starting to feel summer creeping in. We started around 9:30am and had a beautiful morning, but if you're planning engagement photos in Albuquerque during the warmer months, I'd honestly recommend going even earlier if you can. You'll get softer light, cooler temperatures, and avoid arriving at brunch looking like you just finished a workout.

Why Corrales Is One of My Favorite Places for Engagement Photos

There are no shortage of beautiful locations around Albuquerque, but Corrales continues to be one of the places I recommend most often.

The Bosque offers a little bit of everything: shaded trails, open spaces, mountain views, and plenty of variety without needing to move locations halfway through a session. It's also one of those places that naturally helps people relax.

One of the biggest advantages of Corrales Bosque Open Space is how accessible it is. Unlike some of New Mexico's more scenic locations, you don't have to commit to a long hike to get great photographs. Within just a few minutes of the parking area, there are multiple trails, bridges, open spaces, and shaded areas that photograph beautifully.

For engagement sessions, that matters more than people realize. You don't have to worry about arriving sweaty, carrying extra shoes, or hiking in formal clothes. And if you're meeting your photographer for the first time, it's a much easier environment to settle into than spending 30 minutes hiking together before the session even begins.

That's important because most couples tell me some version of the same thing before a session:

"We're awkward in front of the camera."

The truth is, most people feel that way.

The goal isn't to become professional models for an hour. The goal is to spend time together, explore a beautiful place, and let the photographs grow naturally from that experience.
